Each player save the Host portrays a single character within the game, one of the protagonists around whom the story rotates. The final player, the Host, narrates and arbitrates the story; he or she portrays all the other non-player characters (or ‘NPCs’), from antagonists to allies, brief encounters and the throng of incidental faces passed in the market place. The focus is on creating a player character (or ‘PC’) ready to enter into the story.
